A Brief History of ICC
2011
In 2011, ICC continues to grow and change as people come and go. In some ways, ICC is more vibrant than ever and more mature than ever. ICC continues to be involved in the community shining forth the hope we have in Jesus Christ.
Fall 2010
ICC is a dynamic international church with people from all over the world. It is fulfilling its mission to build a community of Christ-followers from all nations. There are between 80 and 130 people on any given Sunday morning. ICC is active in supporting missionaries and mission agencies that server in some of the most difficult parts of the world. ICC is poised for a great fall with new teachers and new Bible studies and small groups.
ICC just had is Fall Retreat: Living for the Glory of God where 47 ICCers attended and had an amazing time of worship, fellowship, and learning.
ICC is launching small group Bible studies for men, women, and mixed groups.
Summer 2010
Summer is a quiet time for ICC. Many people travel and many students return home. We taught a Doctrine series and preached through the book of Titus.
Spring 2010
ICC saw a lot of growth in the spring of 2010 with new teachers coming to Busan and getting plugged into the church. We had a bunch of Bible studies and two Truth Projects that were well attended.
ICC also celebrated its 3rd anniversary with a huge spring picnic and sports day!
Fall 2009
ICC had a great retreat: Make War: Fighting and Killing Sin. Around 40 people attended and we had an amazing time of worship, fellowship, and teaching. We also had several small groups and began the Truth Project for the first time.
Summer 2009
Summer started with a camping trip to Milyang. About 22 people went camping and we had an amazing time in the mountains.
The Peoria Baptist Mission Team came back to Busan in June/July of 2009. They helped run two workshops at ICC. The first workshop was a Leadership/Ministry Workshop for five strategic areas: Worship, Children’s Ministry, Small Group Bible Studies, and Welcome Team. The second workshop was a Faith Journey Workshop where everyone saw where God had been working in his or her life and where God was leading him or her.
Spring 2009
In the spring of 2009, ICC saw tremendous growth and development. Because ICC saw steady growth in 2008, there were more people to help lead various ministries. ICC re-launched Fellowship Groups based on where people live in the city. There were three women’s studies up and running, a men’s study. On the college campuses there were Outreach studies to creatively share the good news of Jesus with college students. ICC also began to help start a Hockey League in Busan.
In April, ICC celebrated its 2nd anniversary. ICC celebrated two great years of growing closer to and serving God!
Winter 2009
ICC started the winter of 2008/2009 very strong. A lot of events occurred around Christmas 2008: our Christmas dinner, and our Christmas Eve All-Night Event. In January we lost one of our founding families, Andy and Ju-yeon Green. ICC had a special prayer service for them on Sunday, February 8th, 2009. ICC wishes the Green’s the best as they seek God’s best for their lives.
Fall 2008
ICC is more than a church and it is more than a Sunday thing. ICC is a body of believers living out their lives in faith in and around Busan. ICC is here to meet the spiritual and physical needs of the community. ICC’s goal is to build a community of Christ followers from all nations. The members of ICC now live in all parts of Busan! There are fellowship groups and Bible studies during the week. We had ‘Fellowship Groups’ meeting throughout the city. These groups met in all areas of Busan. The members of ICC are very social! They are literally all over the city doing crazy fun things like cliff jumping in Songdo. ICC desires to see everyone to have a personal and intimate relationship with Jesus Christ and to walk faithfully with Him daily.
Spring and Summer 2008
International Community Church continued to grow in many areas. Worship became more dynamic as more members became involved and used their talents. ICC celebrated its one year anniversary in April with a huge cookout ICC style. In the summer, the Peoria Baptist mission team from Illinois came to Busan to evangelize and teach God’s Word. Many new teachers arrived in Busan and many found their way to ICC. We have also been blessed with several new Korean members.
December 2007
After nine months, ICC had grown to 30 people and we had three small groups and had invested in equipment to make the service run more smoothly. We had our first Christmas party where over 30 people attended and celebrated the birth of our Lord and Savior.
September 2007
ICC held its first retreat in the beautiful mountains of Milyang about 90 minutes outside of Busan. This was a time of fellowship, games, and encouragement for everyone who attended.
April 2007
About 15 people from the Busan area began an English-speaking worship service at Minerva Hall on the campus of Pusan University of Foreign Studies (PUFS). The name International Community Church was chosen to reflect the inter-denominational character of the fellowship as well as the shared vision to evangelize to the English-speaking community in Busan. We believe that the church ought to be one which involves the active participation of its members and provides an environment for corporate worship of Jesus Christ, mutual encouragement and accountability, care and concern, growth in Christ and training and service.
